Overview
There are several ways to view linked data in the tool. It may depend on what level of data you want to view, whether it is at your full results level, record level, or based on link type. Review the options below to understand more about how to view data in your results that may have linked data.
Refine panel
There is a Has Linked Data option in each Refine Panel for all datasets. This will allow you to limit your results to those with only linked data. Each Refine Panel option is unique to the dataset you are in. Learn more about the options here. What is viewable in Top Results by default will be those linked data available for your results set, with corresponding counts. To see all options for Linked Data for that dataset, you can switch to Full List.
| It is important to note that these (has) linked data options include all link type possibilities, and most notably both SPIRES and disambiguation links for grant-literature links. Learn more about link types here. |
You can use Search Assist to limit the link type for example to SPIRES if you wish. You can also transfer/view linked data within the corresponding dataset and use the specific link type options available to drill down.
Search fields
You can search linked data fields in each dataset. The fields available differ per dataset, as not all datasets have the same available linked data. Learn more about search fields here.
Custom fields
If you do not see a field you wish to search in the search fields, you can also use custom fields to find/search less frequently used data. Learn more about how to use these here.
Grants example:
Record view
Linked Data information is available in the record view for any result that contains linked data. A number of fields are available for view, search, and export related to linked data. You can see if a record had linked data, if it is NIH-linked, the link type, and total number of linked data for most linked data.
Linked Data tables
Tables are available in record view for viewing linked data. These can be modified to move/expand columns as you wish. You can also use the View Linked Data button beside each header to view this specific linked data in the other dataset and drill down by link type.
Note: For linked grants, there is a limit of 1,000 applications to view or export. If you wish to view all of these, you should use View Linked Data and transfer to grants.
Export
All of the fields you see in the record view are also exportable. The fields available differ per dataset, as not all datasets have the same available linked data. For much of the linked data, there may be multiple values, so unwind may be useful to separate out linked grants for example, similar to how they are viewed in the record table view. Learn more about export here.
