Hyphen
Any search term containing a dash/hypen ‘-‘ will have the dash ignored and the remaining text quoted. For example, searching anti-inflammatory will be automatically converted to “anti inflammatory” and return records that contain anti-inflammatory or anti inflammatory. So, if you are building a complex search, you would not need to include both variations of the term.
Commas
When searching phrases such as "Manchester United", the system will search the text for this phrase, ignoring commas (and hyphens), therefore, you may also retrieve "Manchester, United Kingdom" in your results. If you do not wish for these records to be included in your results, you can try to create a complex query to include NOT "United Kingdom" perhaps. This may take some trial and error, depending on your search.
ASCII Folding
The ASCII folding filter converts terms containing diacritical marks (accent marks associated with certain letters in various languages) as well as other Unicode characters, numbers, or symbols that exist outside of the basic Latin block of the first 127 ASCII characters into their ASCII equivalent if a reasonable equivalent exists.
For example:
- á ⇒ a
- ã ⇒ a
- ß ⇒ ss
- æ ⇒ ae
- ł ⇒ l
- ɰ ⇒ m
