Overview
The dataset view displays both the Topic Explorer visualization on the left side of the screen and the Results view on the right side of the screen. When first entering the dataset view, you will have the option of following a step-by-step guide that walks you through many of the functionalities within this view. You can revisit this guide at any point in the future by clicking the Tutorial button in the bottom-left corner. Use the 'x' in the corner of any step to close out of the step-by-step guide.
Note: There is a separate Topics toggle beside View Linked Data within the Literature dataset to switch between the Topic and iCite view.
Topic Explorer
The Topic Explorer visualization shows search records grouped into topic boxes with AI-generated labels. Dataset-specific metrics are displayed via heat mapping. You can sort results into broad, intermediate, or narrow topics using the Display Level menu. You can also limit results to specific topics using the Filter Topics button. Learn more about the Topic Explorer.
Results
The right side of the screen shows the Results view where records can be displayed as a Table or List. Clicking on a record will open the Record View, which displays more information about that record. Learn more about the Record View.
Refine Panel
The funnel at the upper left of the page opens the Refine Filters panel, which contains filters you can apply to your search. Learn more about the Refine Filters.
Breadcrumb Trail
Minimizing and Maximizing
You can minimize or maximize the Topic Explorer or Results view by sliding the thick black divider that appears between the Topic Explorer visualization and the Results table. In addition, the Maximize button, indicated by opposing arrows at the top right of the results table, will maximize or minimize the overall size of the display.
Associated People
You can explore the people linked to records from your search in the Associated People tab. This tab provides a list of the top 100 people associated with your results. The data are sorted based on number of records, but you may also be able to sort on additional metrics, depending on the dataset. Associated people are available in the Literature and Grant Records datasets. Learn more about each of these below:
Additionally, clicking on an individual's name allows you to view their Person Profile, which has any grant records (awards) and literature linked to this individual (not limited to just your search criteria) as well as other information. Note that historical information about grants and publications is also available in the Associated People tab under the Person History column.
Linked Data
One of the most powerful developments in iSearch Analytics is how datasets are linked. To find documents linked to records from a search, you can click on View Linked Data and choose a document type. You can also limit records within the dataset you are in to only those that have linked data by using the Has Linked Data refine filter. For example, if you are interested in the literature linked to a set of grant records, you can use the Has Linked Data refine filter and then click View Linked Data to see this linked data in more detail within its respective dataset. To learn more about how data are linked, visit the datasets section of the User Guide.
You can also view details about each record, along with the record's linked data by clicking on the hyperlinked title in the Results Table and scrolling down to find the linked data section of interest; this is called the Record View. Learn more about the linked data available within each dataset by following the links below:
To learn specific details about the how we created the various data linkages within each dataset, visit the View Linked Data article.
Share
You can share the URL of your exact search with others who have access to the tool by clicking the Share button, located at the top right corner under the search bar. This allows another user to open the URL and see the exact keywords, search fields, and/or refine filters you have applied. You can also store this URL so that you can come back to it at a later point and see additional records meeting your search criteria that have been added.
Export
You can export data for further analysis by using the Export button, located at the top right corner under the search bar. Learn more about exporting data.
