iSearch Analytics records are extensively linked to provide easy access to data, all within the iSearch Analytics platform. After performing a search in one dataset, you can select an option from View Linked Data to find linked literature, clinical trials, and more in the dataset where your linked data will be found; this could be in the same dataset or transferred to another dataset, depending on the chosen option. This is different than Has Linked Data (Refine Panel option), which allows you to stay in the same dataset and only view results which have the specified linked data, based on your filter of choice.

Grant Records
In the Grant Records dataset, you can find linked records in other datasets by clicking on the View Linked Data button at the top of the Topic Explorer. From there you can choose to view linked:
-
Literature
-
View funded papers linked to these awardees: based on the SPIRES, the Scientific Publication Information Retrieval and Evaluation System (pub - grant linkages), PubMed grant acknowledgements (also pub - grant linkages), and disambiguation (author - PI linkages).
- SPIRES based links are recorded when authors cite a grant number in a publication. iSearch Analytics provides awardee-based SPIRES-linked publications and ensures PIs on the grant are indeed authors on the publication. This method removes publications with "ghost authors"— individuals who participate in research, analysis, and/or manuscript development but are not named or disclosed specifically as an author in the byline or acknowledgments)—and only links to publications that were published in or after the award year.
- PubMed links are recorded when an author acknowledges a grant within the publication. These links are not required to have names (authors/PIs) that match, although the publication year must be published in the same year, or after, the grant record was awarded.
- Note: Both SPIRES and PubMed linkages are shown as "SPIRES" within the tool, therefore, not all "SPIRES" links will have name matches
- Disambiguation (PI-authors) links identify publications authored by an awardee PI that were published in the same year as the awarded application. Important: To ensure you are identifying all publications linked to a PI on a grant, make sure to select all awarded applications within the lifetime of the grant (i.e., make sure to select all Application Types, including Type 5 renewals, for the grant of interest).
- Disambiguation disclaimer: Linking does not infer an intellectual property connection between the award and publication or clinical trial.

Clinical Trials
- View clinical trials linked to awards: based on traditional grant/output linkages via clinicaltrials.gov
Literature
In the Literature dataset, you can find linked records in other datasets by clicking on the View Linked Data button at the top of the Topic Explorer. From there you can choose to view linked:
-
Grant Records
- View awards linked to authors on these papers: based on SPIRES, PubMed (pub - grant linkages) and disambiguation (author – PI linkages); see more details above in Grant Records
-
Clinical Trials
- View clinical trials that cited these papers
-
View clinical trials that reported results in these papers
- Both are based on traditional grant/output linkages via clinicaltrials.gov
-
Literature: You can explore the publication citation network by choosing one of the two options
- View publications referenced by these papers
- View publications citing these papers
Clinical Trials
In the Clinical Trials dataset, you can find linked records in other datasets by clicking on the View Linked Data button at the top of the Topic Explorer. From there you can choose to view linked:
-
Literature
- View publications cited by these clinical trials: based on linkages via clinicaltrials.gov; publication (background research/justification) came first then clinical trial
- View published results of these clinical trials: based on linkages via clinicaltrials.gov; clinical trial came first then publication (results)
