The Refine Filters panel is an efficient way to drill into your results and/or capture broad data, especially if you are unsure of the format needed to use the Search Fields option. Using the panel also keeps the search bar empty for you to add other search syntax. The panel contains filters specific to each dataset to assist you in refining your search, independent or alongside other Search Strategies (Search Assist, manual queries using search fields, and manual queries using custom fields).
For example, you could use the Refine Filters panel to specify publication years of interest after finding Literature with a NIAID (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases)-affiliated author using search fields.
Notice the breadcrumbs (active filters) that populate under the search bar once you begin applying Refine Filters panel options.
